Cameron Newell - Xerces Society

Cameron manages the day-to-day operations of the Xerces Society's food industry supply chain projects in California, Oregon and Washington, coordinating with partner organizations and individual landowners to promote pollinator conservation. Cameron also coordinates Bee Better Certified, a food industry certification program managed by Xerces that works with farmers and food companies to conserve bees and other pollinators in agricultural lands. Cameron’s background is in restoration ecology and project management of coastal sage, chaparral and marsh systems in Southern California. With his roots in agriculture and a wealth of experience in restoration ecology, in grad school Cameron turned his attention to finding innovative approaches to providing ecosystem services in agroecosystems. Cameron’s experience prior to becoming part of the Xerces team has included teaching botany at the college level and working to restore native habitat in agroecosystems on three continents. He has also been a nursery manager, plant propagator, farmer, and wildlife cinematographer. He received a master’s degree in environmental horticulture from the University of Washington, Seattle and a bachelor's of science in botany and zoology from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.
